emma / 2016 senior x an evening adventure in the wilds of kansas

earlier this week, emma and i drove the hour-long windy route to prairie state park in kansas to shoot her senior session. the wind was intense and the light was sublime. needless to say, i was beyond giddy. we hiked through the outskirts of an ancient pine forest and waded through thorn-infested plains; it was an adventure for the record books.

emma is a friend that i became acquainted with a few years back. we hit it off due to our similar backgrounds (both of us being raised overseas). it was a privilege for me to be able to capture her infectious personality and kind spirit.

wind + self portraits

fact: self portraits are difficult. however, they encourage creativity and working with the camera in ways that i never have before. since i am currently without a tripod + remote control, i had to configure the settings, set the focus, then firmly plant my sister in an exact spot and tell her to click the shutter when i said so. it was, by far, one of the most unique photo-taking experiences i've had to date. here's to trying new things and leaving comfort zones the minute you realize you've established one.

emma, on an overcast spring afternoon

there are days whenever the weather and the gloominess are just too good to miss. monday was one of those days. emma and i enjoyed the new spring blooms and took a few portraits. it was an afternoon well spent.
